I have been involved in studying Asia for over forty years. This experience has been one of the greatest joys of my life. I have lived in Taiwan, China, and Japan. I have combined a life of research, teaching, and business in a way that has enriched my life with friendships and discoveries.
My main interests are in human rights, modern Japanese culture, Taiwan's political history, the Vietnam war, and historical studies of China and Korea.
