History 357: The Vietnam Wars: 1945 to the Present
Instructor:
Richard Kagan

Goals: To place the war in historical perspective and to give the student an understanding of Vietnam's political and intellectual struggles.

Content: The colonization of Vietnam, the nature of the Communist revolution and postwar problems for Southeast Asia, the various interpretations of the war.

Teaching methods: Lecture, Public Broadcasting Service films, movies.

Assignments: Four short papers on different aspects of the war.

Taught: Alternate years.
