Hamline Named to President's Honor Roll for Community ServiceHamline University has been named to the third annual President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for distinguished community service in recognition of extraordinary volunteer efforts by the university and its students in serving their local and national communities. Hamline was selected because of its outstanding community partnerships and contributions, and because of the dedication of its students, staff, and faculty to service-learning. Being awarded a place on the honor roll is a reaffirmation and exhibition of an institution's pledge to educating students for social responsibility, community engagement, and lifelong citizenship. In addition to Hamline, only nine other colleges and universities from Minnesota were named to the honor roll for responding to President Bush’s call to increase civic engagement and community service. Four Minnesota schools, including Hamline, received "distinguished service" recognition for providing exceptional community service over the past year, contributing their time, resources, energy, skills, and intellect to serve America. The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll is co-sponsored by the Department of Education, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, USA Freedom Corps, and the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation. The recognition is presented in cooperation with Campus Compact, a national coalition of nearly 1,000 college and university presidents, and supported by all the major national higher education associations. |
