This is from the 1994 King Boreas Race, in St. Paul
The first time I did the American Birke (actually the Kortelopet) - 1995. I started in the 4th wave, and got into the 1/2 Korte wave for 1998 - which I would have had to race to keep my wave placement, except for the extraordinary conditions that year. So I didn't race it until 1999, where I placed 5th in my age group, 104th man, but didn't go too very fast, and will stay in the second wave. Not my favorite race, but a great event - one should go up there just to experence it, even if you don't race it..
My training group at the Silver Star (B.C.) Camp run by Marty Hall. Thanksgiving week, 1995.
