Instructors can attach files to many different content areas such as Course Information, Course Documents, Assignments, etc. Files can also be added in the Digital Dropbox, or attached to Discussion Board (Forum) postings.
File attachments can contain text, presentations, images, music, or video.
NOTE: Common formats for file attachments include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF).
When a file is attached, a hyperlink to the file will be displayed to users. Within the course web site, you have the option to open or save file attachments.
Opening File Attachments
To open a file, click on the name of the file (hyperlink). The file will open in a new window.
Saving File Attachments
To save a file to a computer's local, shared, or floppy disk drive, either.
Click on the file to open it. The file will open in a new window. Use the Save As function on the File menu to save the file, OR
download/save the file to the computer:
To download the file to a PC: Right-click on the file name (hyperlink). A context menu is displayed. Select the Save Link As ... option for (Netscape Navigator browser) or the Save Target As ... (Internet Explorer browser).
To save it to a Macintosh computer: Click and hold down the mouse button on the file name (hyperlink), and select Save This Link As ... (Netscape Navigator browser) or Save Target As ... (Internet Explorer browser).
NOTE: For the Netscape 6 browser on the Macintosh platform, the menu will only appear if you hold the control key down while clicking on the link.
When the Save Target As (or Save This Link As) window is displayed, choose the location and name of the file and click on the Save button to save the file, or click on Cancel button to abort this process.
