Chris Hartman

Chris Hartman will serve in the interim director position until the search for a new director of athletics is complete.

The change comes as Dan O’Brien leaves Hamline to take over as the director of football operations with the University of Minnesota.

Hartman has been the strength and conditioning coach for Hamline's 19 NCAA Division III teams since the 2001-2002 academic year.

Previously, Hartman served as strength and conditioning coach for the University of Minnesota football team from 1995-2001. He was an assistant at Stanford University for one season, and head strength coach for the San Diego Chargers for two seasons, prior to joining the Gophers. Hartman was named Big 10 Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year in 1998.

As a student-athlete, he was a three-year starter and four-year letterman in football at Bowling Green State University (Ohio) from 1982-1985. He competed in two bowl games and was named captain and All-Conference his senior year.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Bowling Green State in 1987. He earned his master’s degree in education from United States International University (San Diego, Calif.) in 1989. Hartman and his wife, Karen, have three sons - Jared, Steven, and Kevin.
