Back to the Traditional Model Concentrations and Elective Courses> Course DescriptionsSurvey of Health Care Systems and Issues GPA 8227 0-4 Credits This course provides an introduction to U.S. health care systems and issues. An overview of health care facilities, practices, and services that constitute delivery systems will be explored including some of the major issues these entities face. Payer systems including commercial, self insured, health maintenance organizations, preferred provider organizations, and government programs will be studied to gain knowledge and understanding of the complexities these insurers face and create. The basic areas of health law and health care ethics will be defined with emphasis on the key concepts and issues health care leaders and executives must understand to protect the entities they serve. Throughout the course, components of these health care systems and their relationship to each other will be studied and discussed. A high level overview of other nations' health care systems will be examined and compared to health care systems in the U.S. Current issues and trends critical to the delivery of health care in the U.S will be introduced as they relate to resources, services, cost, and quality.
