Tuition Information
Tuition information is available online at http://www.hamline.edu/graduate.

Eligibility
Students are eligible for financial aid if they are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens enrolled at least half-time (4 semester credits) in a degree program.

Application Instructions
All students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It may be completed online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ or by calling the Hamline Financial Aid office at 651-523-3000 to receive a paper application. If the federal government selects you for verification, you must also submit an institutional verification form, and signed copies of federal tax returns. Students wishing to apply only for non-federal student loans need only complete the alternative loan application.

When to Apply
Please apply for financial aid at the same time that you submit your admissions application. The financial aid process takes an average of 6 to 8 weeks. If the application is complete and loan funds are ready to disburse, they will be credited to the student’s account shortly after the term begins. Once the term has started, any loans applied for and ready to disburse will be credited to the student’s account each day of the current term (students will not qualify for student loans if they apply for them after they are no longer enrolled or if the academic year has expired, whichever is sooner). If loan proceeds credited to a student’s account result in an overpayment of the account balance, a refund check will be issued to the student approximately one week later.

Types of Financial Aid
Students may be eligible for Federal Subsidized or Unsubsidized loans. In addition, some students are eligible for non-federal alternative loans, which may require credit checks and/or cosigners.

Federal Student Loan Terms
Initially, there is up to a 3% fee charged by the lender for student loans. Repayment of student loans starts six months after the student graduates, or ceases to be enrolled at least half-time. The repayment period is 10 years with a minimum payment of $50. per month. The interest rate is a variable rate set every July 1 with a cap of 8.25%.

Outside Grant Money
Students may look for scholarships in resources at the Bush Library, or online at http://www.fastweb.com
and at http://www.hamline.edu/outsidescholarships.

Time Away from the Program
During a non-enrolled term, students are not eligible for financial aid. Also, students need to reapply for loans for the next enrolled term. If not enrolled for six or more months, the student’s loan will go into repayment status. Loans may be deferred after enrollment is at half-time or more again.
