Help to strengthen the quality of writing in our schools by accessing current thinking and research in the field. Courses in this Writing Certificate are designed to develop confidence in your own writing abilities and provide effective strategies for teaching writing in your professional practice. 

The Certificate in Writing is dedicated to:

  • Raising the visibility of writing in schools;
  • Strengthening the quality of writing that Minnesota students produce;
  • Engaging teachers in their own writing and building a community of teacher writers;
  • Critically and thoughtfully reviewing professional literature related to writing instruction;
  • Supporting teachers as they explore the power of writing to bring about social change.

Who should participate?

K-12 teachers interested in strengthening their own writing and their professional practice in the teaching of writing. 

Coursework may be applied toward the Master of ARts in Education degree program offered at Hamline University.

The Writing Certificate program was developed in collaboration with the Comprehensive Center-VI at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research a the University of Wisconsin-Madison and funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
