TBIs and Minnesota children
- More than 2,700 Minnesota children experience a TBI each year
- More than 1,000 of these are hospitalized
- There has been a 10 percent average annual increase for the past ten years in the number of children with a TBI.

- Understand the cognitive, academic, social/emotional and communicative needs of students with TBI
- Meet state-required competencies
- Earn graduate credit
- Fulfill legal requirements for your school Hamline’s School of Education courses are taught by active professionals who excel at giving you everything you need to become skilled in working with students with a traumatic brain injury or other special needs.

How do I earn the Traumatic Brain Injury Certificate?
Twelve (12) credits are required to complete the TBI Certificate. This includes nine credits of required courses and three elective credits.
Required courses – 9 credits
- SPED 7071 TBI Traumatic Brain Injury 101, 2 credits
- SPED 7072 TBI Emotional/Behavioral Issues, 1 credit
- SPED 7073 TBI Communication Disorders, 1 credit
- SPED 7083 TBI Biomedical Aspects of Physical & Developmental Disabilities, 2 credits
- SPED 7084 TBI Neurobiological Disorders, 2 credits
- SPED 7995 TBI Final Synthesis, 1 credit
Elective courses – 3 credits
- SPED 7294 TBI Effective Consulting Skills, 1 credit
- SPED 7296 TBI Assistive Technology, 2 credits
- SPED 7297 TBI Legal Issues in Special Education, 1 credit
