Hamline’s ASD certificate program offers:

• Evening, Saturday, and summer classes for working teachers

Trained teachers working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) bring hope to families and children as they work to fully develop a student’s education potential.

The Hamline University School of Education’s ASD Certificate Program gives teachers and personnel in related services the qualifications they need to work closely with these special students.

Curriculum is directly aligned with the areas of competence recommended for educators working with ASD learners. Individuals with licensure in special education or related services are eligible for this unique program.

Credits earned in the ASD Certificate Program may be applied to a Master of Arts in Education Degree. Hamline's flexible program offers a variety of classroom and online opportunities from an NCATE recognized program.

Any licensed teacher may apply, especially those working in special education or related services.

How do I earn the Hamline ASD Certificate?

Thirteen (13) credits are required to complete the ASD Certificate Program.

Required courses –10 credits

  • SPED 7091 ASD Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorders, 2 credits
  • SPED 7092 ASD Proactive Behavior Management, 1 credit
  • SPED 7094 ASD Identification, Assessment and Planning for the Student with ASD, 2 credits
  • SPED 7095 ASD Communication: Assessment and Intervention for the Learner with ASD, 1 credit
  • SPED 7096 ASD Teaching Strategies for Students with ASD, 2 credits
  • SPED 7293 ASD Asperger Syndrome, 1 credit
  • SPED 7995 ASD Final Synthesis, 1 credit

Elective courses – 3 credits
