ESL and TEFL teachers receive rich and rewarding experiences because of their close interaction with people from other cultures. With Hamline's online programs and courses, you can be anywhere in the world and still receive all the great benefits that our teaching programs provide!

ESL and TEFL online programs are offered by Hamline's Center for Second Languages Teaching and Learning, an NCATE and TESOL accredited institution. Many programs can be completed through both online and classroom courses, or entirely online. Visit the SLTL webpage for a full list of available ESL programs.

ONLINE MASTERS DEGREE

MA in English as a Second Language
 
ESL professionals who want to further their understanding of how language systems and language-culture relationships affect learning can earn the MAESL online. After earning the MAESL, graduates can qualify to teach children and adults in a variety of public and private schools, nationally or internationally. The master's degree program can now be completed entirely through online coursework.

Teachers of Adult ESL

The Teachers of Adult ESL certificate is designed for individuals working in adult ESL educational environments (including ABE) who already have a BA or BS degree. All courses are available online and are listed below.

ESL 6634  Intro to the Adult ELL: Developing Oral Skills 
ESL 6636  Course Design for Adult ESL Classes

ESL 6638  Assessment of Adult ELLs

ESL for Mainstream Teachers
The ESL for Mainstream Teachers certificate welcomes licensed K-12 teachers who want to focus on integrating English language learners into the classroom. All courses are available online and are listed below, and most can be applied toward licensure in ESL.

Advanced TEFL Certificate
After completion of the initial TEFL on-campus program, students wanting to learn more about language theory and linguistics can complete an Advanced TEFL Certificate online. Required courses, listed below, are all available online.
