Outstanding Faculty Award

Leonardo Lasansky

Professor Leonardo Lasansky joined the faculty of Hamline University in 1972.  He has been the Director of Exhibitions and Chair of the Department of Studio Arts and Art History since 1995.  In 2004, he was appointed Artist-in-Residence of the College of Liberal Arts. He is an Academician of the National Academy, NYC.  In 1981, he was the recipient of a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Iowa, where he received his BGS, MA, and MFA degrees.  In 1982, he was Artist-in-Residence at Dartmouth College.  In 1997, he received The Agnes Hulburd Conger Prize for Outstanding Contribution in the Humanities for his exhibition The Legacy of War, an homage to Francisco Goya.  His most recent project was a museum studies course in which students not only considered theoretical aspects of art installation but also contributed significantly to the research and composition of object and informative didactics.  The culmination of the course was the exhibition and publication of Icons of Perfection, an exhibition featuring figurative sculptural traditions from across sub-Saharan Africa.  Professor Lasansky has lectured extensively throughout the country and has received over fifty national and international awards for his work as an artist.  His drawings and intaglio prints appear in museum collections throughout the United States and Europe.
