The Hamline University Physics Department invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level beginning in Fall 2008. While the specialty area is open, the candidate should be able to significantly contribute to undergraduate laboratory development, establish interactive learning environments, conduct undergraduate student-faculty collaborative research, and contribute to the new Computational Science minor and the development of an undergraduate degree program in the area.  Candidates must have demonstrable competencies in teaching, advising, and mentoring students from culturally diverse backgrounds, and must demonstrate a commitment to promote and enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion in support of academic excellence. The candidate must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education, liberal learning, and excellent and innovative teaching. All College of Liberal Arts faculty advise students, participate in general education programs such as the First Year Seminar, and serve on college and university committees and other service assignments.

Hamline University, located in the culturally vibrant and dynamic St. Paul, Minnesota, promises a distinctive learning environment with personal attention and exceptional experiences to prepare students to contribute and prosper in a diverse and changing world. The physics department has active research in ultrafast optics, magnetic materials, and energy policy, and graduates 10 students per year. Candidates should submit (via the department's web site) a cover letter, vita, statement of teaching philosophy, research plan (including budget) identifying connections with both students and other disciplines, transcripts, and 3 letters of recommendation.
