Hamline University Undergraduate Admission

Application Instructions 

Admission to Hamline University is selective. The International Admission Committee admits students who have achieved academic success in mathematics, sciences, social sciences, and languages. The Committee selects new students through a review of academic documentation. To apply please:

    • Complete the international student application or apply using the common application.
    • Send us official or certified copies of your academic records from all secondary schools and colleges or universities which you have attended. If your academic records are not in English, you must have them translated into English by a certified public translator.
    • Have an official copy of your language proficiency exam sent to Hamline University. You must have achieved: a TOEFL score of 550 or above on the written exam, 213 or above on the computer-based exam, 79 or above on the Internet-based exam or an IELTS score of 6.5 or above. You may also submit an SAT or ACT exam in place of a TOEFL or IELTS.  For more information about these exams, see www.ets.org/toefl, www.ielts.orgwww.collegeboard.com (SAT) or www.act.org (ACT). The language proficiency exam score must be sent to us directly from the test agency (TOEFL, IELTS, College Board, ACT). Conditional admission is also available.
    • Provide us evidence of financial support. You must submit documentary evidence of the amount of financial support that will be available to you. This information must be provided through bank statements and affidavits of support. 
    • Write a personal statement; this is part of the application form. We encourage you to provide any information you think the admission committee should consider when reviewing your application. 
    • Provide an essay or graded paper of at least 250 words.
    • Have a recommendation from a school-based counselor or teacher sent to Hamline.
