History 125: Korean Civilization
Instructor: Richard Kagan

Goals: To appreciate the cultural and social foundations of traditional Korea, review interpretations of the Korean War and understand the economic and political development of modern Korea.

Content: Korean literature, historical narrative, movies on the Korean War Korean food and Korean culture. Special attention will be given to the economic strength of South Korea and its relations with the United States. The human rights record of both the north and south will be reviewed.

Teaching Methods: Lecture, discussion, map quiz.

Assignments: Quizzes. midterm, final exam, one short paper.

Taught: Alternate years.
